Chicagoland's infamous backyard bonsai nursery
Creating Foliage Pads on my Juniper Bonsai
In this episode of The Bonsai Jungle I'm revisiting one of my japanese procumbens junipers to do some pruning and shaping of the foliage and branches into more refined foliage pads. The first thing I do is cut each green shoot in half, which shortens the length of the foliage and brings it closer to the branch. This simple method will create more compact "pads" on the branches as well as naturally creating spaces between each branch. Later, I will have to come in an thin out the pads to refine them even more, but this is the first step for getting this bonsai tree into a much more refined and finished looking shape.

Wiring my Yamadori Colorado Blue Spruce Moose Bonsai
Просмотров 1282 месяца назад
In this video I'm working one of my favorite Bonsai projects over the last few years: the root-over-rock/penjing style Blue Spruce. This is a Colorado Blue Spruce (Picea pungens) Yamadori which was collected out in the Rocky Mountains, USA 3-4 years ago. It was repotted with its roots over the base of this stone buried in the pot shortly after I bought it, and over the past 3 years I've been le...
Restoring a Neglected Shimpaku Juniper Bonsai - Wolf Mountain
Просмотров 2532 месяца назад
Recently I had a breakthrough with how I want to develop my Bonsai collection to have a distinct artistic style instead of just focusing on the trees themselves. In this episode I repot a neglected juniper i bought of eBay 8 months ago back into a semi-cascade rock / crescent pot and debut the first true "bonsai Jungle" style tree with animal figures included in a more "naturalistic" design, co...
Repotting My Juniper For Aesthetics
Просмотров 2949 месяцев назад
On this episode of The Bonsai Jungle I repot my recently acquired procumbens juniper bonsai tree into a beautiful Sarah Rayner pot I wish I had a 100 more of. I cover the basic process of repotting and add a new fertilizer at the end to experiment with for post-work recovery and root growth.
Styling My Twin-Trunk Dwarf Alberta Spruce Bonsai (2023)
Просмотров 8339 месяцев назад
IDK who tf Dwarf Alberta is, but I really wanna meet her & thank her for creating this spruce cultivar. In all honesty it's growth habit makes styling a constant battle but I'll be brawling for the long haul because I saw Mark's DA spruce at the CBG show and it looked great. SO, I've brought out my Home Depot $10 Dwarf Alberta Spruce Bonsai and I'm going to restyle and wire it up to refine it's...
The Bonsai Jungle - End of Summer Tour
Просмотров 4599 месяцев назад
Just like that #JungleBoySummer has come to an end, and now at long last I recorded a nursery tour of The Bonsai Jungle showing how all the nursery stock is doing at the end of it's second summer and of course I forgot to include the inflated jungle animals. This tour covers my #bonsai bench and the garden bed for my "Yard-adori" projects, mainly a mix of dwarf 1 gallon Conifer cultivars and no...

#bonsai #bonsaitree #bonsaiexhibition #bonsaishow What's up everyone, in this video you'll see some footage of the Bonsai Show/Bonsai Exhibition here at the Chicago Botanic Garden. I always thought of the show as a great opportunity to see some trees to try and replicate with my own at home. I mainly focused on the Juniper and Pine Bonsai with some other assorted conifers, but there will be mor...

The WORST PINE species for bonsai - The Bonsai Jungle
Просмотров 27611 месяцев назад
Today I'm dropping in right quick with one of my favorite tree species that happens to be one of the worst species to use for bonsai due to its long needles and soft flexible wood which resists wiring. On the brightside: this gives us the freedom to experiment and do whatever we want with these low expectations #bonsaitree #bonsai #thebonsaijungle

How I started The Bonsai Jungle - My Apocalypse Vegetable Garden Experiment
Просмотров 303Год назад
Today I'm bringing you a blast from the past, and digging up old footage of my very first year in the bonsai jungle. I moved into this old widowed lady's house and went bananas in the back yard chopping down trees and ripping up the lawn so I could plant mty #vegetablegarden to prepare for the huge economic crash of 2021. Enjoy your plants and good luck in the upcoming end of the world....it'll...

what time of year did you do this
Thank you!
An update on the larch would be really amazing to see!
I hope those venus flytraps can also devour those trespassing hornets, right?
What about the humidity and the temperature in the grow tent
I live in Ohio where it’s 40 degrees for a few days in November, Then 70 degrees the following week, then -20 degrees for most of the winter. So would it work if I kept them in a mini fridge for consistent temp?
I have a jar of pond snails they are doing good I feed them algae wafers.
Here in southwestern UK Lymnaea stagnalis are in almost every pond and river. They get to their maximum size in larger bodies of water but in small ponds they never attain a large size. They're always nice to see.
What about a 75/25 mix using both?
Its over for the bonsaicel
Never even began for bonsaicels
Bonsaicel. Its over.
If this guy cannot find one girl then its over.
Very cool!
petco does have cocppods
I only saw this video for the slow seline special
nicely done !!
The more I look at these videos, the more confused I get... I'm thinking I'll just find one already made and borrow it to study.
Are they considered invasive where they are found here in the USA?
Depends on who you ask. Legalistic boot kissers would say yes, But I personally consider them a gift from God for being able to find one of my favorite species locally, so the term “invasive” essentially is pretty much equivalent to gobbledygook babble invented by environmental scientists to justify their worthless college diplomas. I used to make up a bunch of bullshit in my statements asking for funding for biological research when I worked in a zoology lab. I would proclaim its valuable to study even the smallest species to be able to assess the environment as a whole, and support food chains and all that. Really anything I could pull out of my hind end. At the end of the day Species migrate, climates change, continents drift…hell, even all humans are invasive outside of African if one is to believe in the theory of evolution. Basically brother just read your Bible and let all the snails run wild across the USA. Jesus Christ is coming back soon so nothing really matters except for repenting for your sins and reading the Bible. Just sit back and enjoy the ride brother. That’s the true punk rock attitude 🤘🏻
great info ...tks !!!

Calatheas are also called “prayer plants”, because they always pray that you give them enough water and sunlight in a timely manner.
An update on this would be awesome. So much potential grown in 4 years, can only imagine what its looking like now!
4/15/24. Did you protect the tree from direct sun for a period of time after this root prune? What time of year did you do this?
It was done a day or two before the video was posted 4/8/23. I set it back out in full sun, since April in Chicago doesn’t have a sun intensity I’m concerned about.
I admire and relate to your passion for your hobbies luke bonsai and venus fly traps etc. Ive been following you since you were in Florida i think with really long hair😊. Watching you and your voice is similar to a Bob Ross episode!😅. I am about to try to bonsai a portulaca afra that ive grown for a few years.
Thanks for the continual support brother. P. afra are very hardy so you should have no problems at all training it into a bonsai.
3:39 i felt so bad for that hermit crab
Beautiful fish
They love coconut 🥥
So you don't recommend a north facing window?
Did you ever do a follow up to this video at all please? Really enjoyed this one.
4:21 what is the TDS of that 1 gallon solution? Under 200ppm? Are you still using this product in 2024?
In this case since the TDS would be the fungicide and not a typical mix of minerals found in tap water it isn’t as relevant and I never measured it. I no longer use this product since I switched over to 100% bonsai.
Thanks for the video. I’ve copied your idea & are using for my lily’s.
you could use a pipette or even a straw to pick up a seed if you drop it in a bit of water first
OMG
This is exactly how i feed my mandarins and it works perfectly
Hey you were a big part of me finding carnivorous plants in the wild, north of Wilmington NC , I found 7 species in one area, largest sundew patch was at the sheriffs gun range
they excrete a wetting agent in the water that reduces the insects buoyancy also
Why turkish lange no😮
8:09 I would still put a light over them as it helps with avoiding mold. with a smart socket plug u can set it to turn on and of with the sun going up and down
Where do I get a basket like that? Thanks!
I found mine at the store, but just google “fish breeding net/box” and they should show up.
Hi iv got the same sort of set up but my flytraps are growing out of doormancy with large wrinkled lower leaves , any ideas what it could be ? Thanks
Do you sell these?
No w Without woold is betere
When you are older, you may sound just like Walter Cronkite.. So, you may one day be famous for your voice-overs, reports or documentaries..
Not as obsessed as you.. Skipped thru. Liked! 🎯🍻💰
